In this article, I would like to discuss about financial blessing and how to get it from God.
In most cases, believers were taught more about the importance of spiritual blessings because it is the most significant and given more emphasis in Christian living. For we know that the purpose of our Christianity is not for the things of this world: for the things we shall see in this world is temporal but the things which are not seen are eternal (2Corinthians 4:18). For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26). But we cannot deny the fact that we need financial blessing from God for the furtherance of the ministry. Because if we still praise God in the time of trials how much more during the time of blessings.
During the early days of our Christianity, we love so much to hear about spiritual lessons that made our lives drastically change, even we come to the point that we almost forget and neglect to focus our mind on worldly things. This is because it is just normal to happen as we received Christ Jesus as Lord, our lives must continue to live in Him, rooted and build up in Him, strengthened in the faith as we were taught… (Colossians 2:6-7).
Sad but true, but along the way of our Christian walk many of our brethren struggled to keep on going at the same condition of faithfulness to God as our first love unto Him. Maybe because we are bothered sometimes with our financial insufficiency: that is when we do not meet immediately our financial blessing. Both rich and poor Christians are the same affected with financial condition. To the rich Christians when they prioritize their transactions for financial gain over attending Sunday service as we show our first love to God. And to the poor Christians, when they cannot serve well to God because they have nothing to spend even for their basic needs and transportation to attend Sunday service. Maybe this is not applicable to all Christians all over the world, but this is true as I observed the Filipino Christians.
Being a matured Christian; we can understand that it is only normal to pass through this process of Christian maturity, but we become hypocrite if we deny this fact that most Christians were affected that they cannot even faithfully serve God because of financial necessity.
Some of the ministers could not even response immediately the work that they need to work because of financial shortage. But because they need to do the work, they just work but struggle. Some church members cannot attend church service because they have nothing to spend for transportation and other financial obligation in the church. Others are doing it deliberately not to attend church service because they prefer to seek for their financial survival. Don’t tell me that this is too normal to happen to Christianity. Did not God promise us the blessing? (Deuteronomy 16:17)
Well, here is the Christian principle to get the blessings from God.
Convert Wants to Needs.
In the book of Matthew chapter 6 verses 26 to 34. The Bible tells us how God provide our basic needs such as food and clothing, and our dwelling place is not even mention as part of our basic needs in the sense that it depends on how individual desire to have his own dwelling place, whether extravagance or just a simple comfort. We are taught not to think for the things mentioned in these passages for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things (verse 32). In this case it is very much assured that God shall supply all our needs according to his riches in glory by Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:19).
Take notice, we are assured here by God that He shall supply ALL our NEEDS but not included our WANTS. Our dwelling place may not be included probably because it belongs to wants, depending in the individual desire. All of us WANT (not need) to have a very comfortable house to dwell. We WANT to have a nice car. But these are not our needs. Those things belong to our WANTS. And God does not promise to supply our WANTS.
I am not saying that God is limited only to supply our basic needs. He is the Almighty God that can make all things possible. He can powerfully give you all what you want to have in life, even within a twinkling of an eye. But that is NOT the process of acquiring things into our possession. If that is the case, He just allows His people to win the lottery without betting for easy money and in order to possess material and financial blessing.
We are typified to an Ant (Proverb 6:6-8). The more we gather food as much as possible the better. The best way of preparing tomorrow is today. If you want to acquire something in life, start it right, and start it now. The ants prepare for themselves as early as possible and as many as they can. It depends upon the abundance of supply. God has abundance supply, only we need is to prepare ourselves like the ants to gather it for a season. Wants can be obtained only if you work out of it.
God does not provide you with all your WANTS. BUT if you CONVERT your WANTS into NEEDS, in this way God is going to supply your NEEDS which is supposed to be that is your WANTS. As we know that the nice HOUSE and a luxury CAR, is no longer our needs, it is our WANTS. But since we know that God shall supply only what is our needs (Philippians 4:19), therefore, we will convert WANTS into NEEDS.
Here is it how? If you cannot afford to buy a nice HOUSE or a dream CAR for cash, acquire it by long term installment basis. In doing so, your monthly due becomes your NEED. That becomes a part of your monthly obligation. You are obligated to pay it every month. It maybe difficult for you to live in uncomfortable living because of additional monthly financial obligation you NEED to coop-up every monthly. But in this way your monthly financial obligation becomes your NEED, then God shall supply according to your NEED.
In everything we want in life there is always an equivalent price to pay. You may regret the inconvenience of your living as a result of this principle if you try it. But if you don’t try it, you will also miss how marvelous is our God to supply the NEED of His children in different circumstances. If ever you struggle to get out your monthly dues because you try it and maybe it causes you to worry and it becomes a part of a heavy load in your life. Remember that the Bible has promise to says “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life?” (Matthew 6:25). God don’t like to see His children taking thought of life. Rest assured that when you are in this situation God never leaves you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye DESIRE, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them (Mark 11:24).
Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be established (Proverbs 16:3 NASB).
